I taught for thirteen years at Dartmouth, and have been a visiting professor at Yale, Korea University, and Stanford. Most recently, I was Maria Crutcher Professor of International Relations at USC. Also, I was Senator Sanders' Asia policy advisor in both his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, something I am very proud of. A former Fulbright Scholar, I also taught at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and the Marshall School of Business at USC. I am a non-resident fellow at the Quincy Institute, and also Principal at Pacific Research and Consulting.

My sister and I went to Stanford, but my family has three generations of Cal grads (including me!), so...

Back in the day, I earned a USSF “National B” Coaching license which is the equivalent of today's “A-Senior” license.

I also have a YouTube channel, where I will post the occasional lecture, interview, or whatever random stuff I think is interesting. Check it out!
